Fada n'gourma: The regional director of Labor and Social Protection of Goulmou, Issa Ouedraogo, presided over a workshop dedicated to reviewing the activities carried out by the directorate during the year 2025. The event took place in the presence of representatives from workers' organizations and technical services.
According to Burkina Information Agency, this meeting provided an opportunity to review the actions undertaken in 2025 within a security context considered challenging in the Eastern region. It also outlined the prospects for 2026. Over the past year, the regional directorate conducted activities related to combating child labor, social protection, and occupational safety and health. Notably, 141 labor disputes were resolved, contributing to maintaining a positive social climate within companies and strengthening job security.
Additionally, technical services conducted inspections of 140 establishments and units in both formal and informal sectors across the region. In the area of social protection, 8,000 people were enrolled in the universal health insurance scheme, reflecting the authorities' commitment to strengthening social coverage, particularly for those working in the informal economy.
According to Issa Ouedraogo, these results were achieved thanks to the dedication of all staff, benefiting both employers and workers in the region. The regional directorate collected over 3 million CFA francs in revenue, deposited into the regional treasury, primarily from fee-based services such as public procurement bids, business registration declarations, and employment contract approvals. These resources contribute to the administration's operations and the improvement of services offered to users.
For 2026, the regional directorate plans to strengthen efforts to promote social dialogue, continue registering individuals subject to universal health insurance, and intensify interventions in social protection and occupational health and safety. Mr. Ouedraogo expressed satisfaction with the discussions with social partners, emphasizing that questions and suggestions from the meeting would be reviewed to enhance the directorate's interventions.
On behalf of the participants, the president of the General Confederation of Labor of Burkina Faso, Gourma section, Souglimpo Couldiaty, welcomed the workshop and the efforts already made on the ground. He encouraged the regional management to continue and strengthen actions for the benefit of workers and employers in the region.
This workshop served as a framework for accountability and consultation between the labor administration and social partners, fostering a more peaceful social climate and better protection for workers in the Goulmou region.
