Ro: IDL Mobilizes for a Blood Drive to Benefit Patients

Nahouri: The Local Development Assistance Initiative (IDL) organized a blood drive on Saturday, September 12, at the Medical Center with Surgical Unit (CMA) in Ro, to benefit health facilities in the Sangui province. The initiative aims to ensure the availability of blood products, particularly during the malaria season, and saw volunteers responding to the association's call.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the High Commissioner of Sangui, Talari Germaine Ouoba, commended the initiative, highlighting its role as a civic, patriotic, and humanitarian gesture. She stressed the critical importance of blood in patient treatment during the peak malaria season. "This blood drive will help save lives," she remarked, while encouraging the IDL to continue its efforts.

The High Commissioner also urged other associations in the province to replicate such initiatives to support health workers and contribute to the health sovereignty of the region. Dr. David Nikima, the chief medical officer of the Ro health district, emphasized that the IDL's efforts provide crucial support for patients requiring blood transfusions, especially during high malaria transmission periods. He expressed hope for more such initiatives on a provincial, regional, and national level to inspire increased volunteer blood donations.

Mr. Souleymane Bako, the executive secretary of IDL, stated that this action aligns with the association's commitment to the health sovereignty policy of Burkina Faso. The initial target was to collect 200 bags of blood. However, due to competing activities in the province, the mobilization faced challenges, and the association aims to secure at least 150 donations. By the time of his statement, about 60 individuals had registered to donate.

Founded in 2017, IDL engages in multiple areas related to local development. Mr. Bako reiterated the association's dedication to supporting communities and services in need, without expecting anything in return.
