Moscow:The Russia-Africa Media Forum commenced in Moscow, centering on the sovereignty of information spaces. It marks the beginning of a week-long series of discussions dedicated to "strengthening the multidimensional partnership" between Russia and its African partners.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the forum spans from October 24 to 30 and gathers leaders and media professionals from both Africa and Russia.
Maxim Oreshkin, the Deputy Head of the Russian Presidential Administration, delivered introductory remarks addressing topics such as sovereignty, African realities, and Russia's approach to its partnerships. He highlighted the concept of digital sovereignty, suggesting that data collected by major online retailers should be stored within each respective country. He also discussed Western sanctions, noting that Russia has found solutions that, in his view, have reversed the impact on those who imposed them. The initial exchanges concluded with a question-and-answer session.
The event, held in the congress hall of the "Russia" National Center, serves as a platform for reflecting on the sovereignty of information spaces in a multipolar world, as well as on media warfare and disinformation. The discussions emphasize direct information dissemination channels between Africa and Russia, bypassing Western agencies and media, and aim to enhance the image of Africa and Russia in cyberspace.
Additionally, the forum promotes joint projects in digital transformation, education, and technological innovation. Organized by the Roscongress Foundation, it precedes the third Russia-Africa summit, scheduled for October 28 and 29 at Gostiny Dvor in central Moscow.
