Saudi Arabia Vows Strong Response After Deadly Riyadh Airport Attack

Riyadh:The Saudi-led military coalition has vowed a firm response following the deadly attack on Riyadh airport, attributed to the Houthis in Yemen. The attack resulted in at least twelve fatalities and 309 injuries on Saturday, as reported by the kingdom's civil aviation authority.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the victims included four Saudis and eight foreigners, one of whom was American. Some of the injured are in critical condition, and the attack also caused material damage.

This incident marks the deadliest attack in Saudi Arabia since August 2015, when a suicide bombing by the Islamic State group targeted a mosque in Abha, killing fifteen people.

The coalition, which supports the internationally recognized Yemeni government, labeled the attack a "war crime." In response, US President Donald Trump condemned the attack as unacceptable and announced plans to meet with Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman. Trump also indicated that Washington might consider participating in strikes against the Houthis, with a decision expected soon.

Additionally, the coalition reported a projectile landing near Dammam airport and another intercepted southeast of Riyadh. Both Dammam and Jeddah airports serve as alternatives to the capital's airport, which has been closed since the attack.

In Riyadh, medical staff were urgently recalled to hospitals to treat the injured. A Western diplomatic source reported that several embassies have advised their staff to avoid the airport for the coming week.

The attack is part of escalating tensions between Saudi Arabia and the Houthis, following earlier attacks on the airports of Abha and Riyadh. It also precedes the kingdom's annual investment conference, a significant event attracting international leaders and business figures.
