SIAMA 2025: ABNORM Highlights Certification of Burkinabe Handicraft and Agri-Food Products

Bamako: The Burkinabe Agency for Standardization, Metrology and Quality (ABNORM) leveraged the platform of the International Handicrafts Fair of Mali (SIAMA) 2025 to enhance its efforts in promoting quality and certifying products from Burkina Faso, particularly in the handicraft and agri-food sectors.

According to Burkina Information Agency, Honore POYGA, head of the training department, emphasized ABNORM's role as the national institution in charge of implementing policies related to standardization, certification, metrology, quality control, and accreditation. "ABNORM is the national body responsible for ensuring that products circulating on the market meet quality and safety standards," he stated.

During SIAMA 2025, the agency expressed its commitment to raising awareness among Burkinabe artisans about the significance of adopting a structured quality approach. Mr. Poyga remarked on the trade fair as "a unique opportunity to promote quality standards made in Burkina Faso, especially given that Burkina Faso is the guest of honor." He noted that ABNORM is already assisting many artisans with the certification process and the continuous improvement of their products.

A focal point at the trade fair was the NBF certification, which is the national conformity mark. Mr. Poyga explained that this certification indicates a product's compliance with the quality and safety standards established by national guidelines. He pointed out that several Burkinabe agri-food products showcased at SIAMA already carry the NBF label, demonstrating ongoing efforts towards standardization.

Mr. POYGA made a direct appeal to Burkinabe creators, encouraging all artisans to engage with ABNORM for product certification to enhance their competitiveness both nationally and internationally.

With its participation in SIAMA 2025, ABNORM aims to continue its mission of promoting Burkinabe craftsmanship by advocating for quality and compliance in artisanal and agri-food products.
