Ouahigouya:A new sludge treatment plant was inaugurated in Ouahigouya by the Minister of State, Minister of Agriculture, Water, Animal, and Fisheries Resources, Commander Isma«l Sombi. The ceremony took place on Friday, September 25, 2026, marking a significant development in the region's sanitation infrastructure, with the project costing over 2 billion FCFA.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the facility, constructed by the National Office for Water and Sanitation (ONEA), aims to enhance the living conditions and overall well-being of the local population. This project is part of a broader initiative related to the 2026-2027 agropastoral and fisheries offensive.

The new infrastructure includes sludge reception basins, an automatic screen for solid waste separation, two sedimentation basins each with a capacity of 50 m³, and 48 drying beds. Additionally, an administrative building and a solid waste incinerator are part of the facility. The plant also benefits from energy self-sufficiency through solar installations.

Idrissa Sourabi, Director General of ONEA, emphasized that the station will strengthen the sanitation chain, addressing previous environmental and health challenges posed by untreated sludge disposal. He highlighted that the infrastructure would mitigate risks, improve public health, and convert sludge into compost for agricultural use, supporting the agropastoral and fisheries offensive.

Minister Commander Isma«l Sombi commended the efforts of ONEA's officials and team, urging them to maintain their dedication to improving the well-being of the Burkinabe people. The inauguration ceremony was attended by Comrade Thomas Yampa, the governor of the Yaadga region, along with several regional officials.
