SNC 2026: Carnival Makes Its Grand Return to Bobo-Dioulasso After a Ten-Year Absence

Bobo-dioulasso: The carnival of the National Culture Week made its grand return this Sunday after a ten-year absence, offering the people of Bobo-Dioulasso a colorful spectacle, punctuated by the dances, music, and traditional costumes of the different communities.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the parade, stretching three kilometers, linked the Place de la Femme to the Bobo-Dioulasso town hall, traversing the city's main boulevard. Throughout the route, many locals came out to admire the groups in procession, in an atmosphere marked by popular joy and festive fervor.

Hundreds of passersby stopped to watch the different communities go by, showing admiration and enthusiasm for the artistic and cultural performances. The President of the Special Delegation of the municipality of Bobo-Dioulasso, Laurent Kontogom, expressed his satisfaction, stating, "Given the joy observed, the municipality is delighted that the carnival is returning."

Present at the scene, the Minister in charge of Culture, Pingdwende Gilbert Ouedraogo, praised the mobilization of the communities. According to him, this return of the carnival aims to allow the population to fully experience the SNC, while offering communities a framework for expression, communion, and the promotion of their cultural riches. He also called for solidarity, living together, and peace.

The National Culture Week continues until May 2, 2026, in Bobo-Dioulasso.
