Bobo-dioulasso: The President of Faso, Captain Ibrahim Traore, inaugurated the 22nd edition of the National Culture Week (SNC) in Bobo-Dioulasso by striking three gong strokes, symbolizing the official opening of the event. He urged a reflection on the youth's role as both beneficiaries and pivotal actors in the transmission of cultural heritage.
According to Burkina Information Agency, Captain Traore, through a speech delivered by the Minister in charge of Culture, Pingdwende Gilbert Ouedraogo, emphasized the importance of passing down reference points, values, memory, and a sense of community to the younger generation. He highlighted that the challenges faced by the nation often arise from a breakdown in social ties, loss of cultural bearings, and failure to acknowledge others.
President Traore stressed the vital role of culture as a bridge connecting generations and as a foundation for unity. Highlighting the theme of the biennial, he stated that imparting values involves teaching respect, solidarity, dignity, courage, and patriotism through practical actions. He called upon the youth of Burkina Faso to demonstrate patriotism by contributing to national defense and fostering lasting peace.
Captain Traore concluded by acknowledging the resilience of Burkina Faso, which he attributed to the country's rich cultural identity, the determination of its people, and the sacrifices of its armed forces and volunteers dedicated to defending the homeland.
The 22nd edition of the SNC, which continues until May 2, 2026, in Burkina Faso's economic capital, is themed "Culture, youth and transmission of social values." The event honors the Republic of Ghana as a guest of honor and Russia as a special guest.
