K©n©dougou: On the occasion of World Environment Day, the SOS Children Association, in collaboration with the Stromme Foundation, organized a plastic collection operation in the Verger city in Orodara. This initiative took place on Thursday, June 5, 2025, under the theme: "The fight against plastic pollution."
According to Burkina Information Agency, the plastic bag collection operation was spearheaded by the SOS Children of Orodara Association (SOSEO) and was aimed at addressing the challenges posed by plastic waste to health and the local ecosystem. Equipped with rakes, shovels, gloves, and other collection equipment, more than a hundred participants, predominantly women, gathered to clean the area surrounding the large Orodara market and the edges of the Selmon backwater.
SOSEO operations coordinator Babou Nagalo emphasized that the timing of this activity was crucial in raising environmental awareness among local populations and merchants. The initiative also sought to educate the community on better environmental practices.
Emmanuel Konat©, President of the special delegation of the commune of Orodara, expressed gratitude to SOS Children Association for their efforts in improving the town's sanitation. Konat©, alongside technical sanitation service heads and SOSEO officials, engaged with the population to discuss effective plastic waste management strategies.
Babou Nagalo also highlighted that the event served as an opportunity to strengthen relationships between community stakeholders and the decentralized technical services of the state, fostering a collective approach to tackling environmental challenges.
