Sourou: The High Commissioner of the Sourou province, Desire Badolo, initiated the zonal qualifiers for traditional wrestling in the Bankui and Sourou regions. The event took place on Saturday, March 21, 2026, at the CELPAC premises, with local administrative and military authorities in attendance.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the president of the Bankui and Sourou regional league, Benjamin Kawane, stated that these elimination phases are intended to select the top competitors in traditional wrestling to represent the two regions on a national stage. "This competition is part of the qualifying rounds for our traditional wrestling championship. It allows us to select the best competitors from our regions and prepare them to represent their entities with dignity at the national championship," Kawane remarked.
A total of 135 wrestlers are participating in these zonal qualifiers for the Bankui and Sourou regions. The prefect, Ouigou Tiendrebeogo, who is also the president of the special delegation (PDS) of Tougan, expressed his satisfaction with the event being held in his municipality. He emphasized the importance of adhering to the rules to ensure a fair competition.
High Commissioner Desire Badolo, while officially launching the competition, encouraged the wrestlers to compete with integrity and urged all involved to strictly follow the rules. This, he noted, would enable the selection of representatives capable of effectively defending the regions at the national level.
