Stallions Secure Vital Win Over Djurtus to Strengthen Position in World Cup Qualifiers

Bissau: The Stallions of Burkina Faso clinched a crucial 2-1 victory against the Djurtus of Guinea-Bissau on Monday in Bissau, during the 6th day of the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers. This victory solidified their 2nd place standing in Group A.

According to Burkina Information Agency, Burkina Faso made an impressive start by taking the lead in the 5th minute through a goal by Franck Lassina Traor©. Guinea-Bissau managed to level the score with Zidane Banjaqui's equalizer in the 36th minute. However, the Burkinabe team elevated their performance, regaining the lead with another goal from Shakhtar Donetsk's striker, Lassina Traor©, in the 73rd minute.

With this win, Burkina Faso has maintained a spotless record in the World Cup qualifying matches, solidifying their 2nd place in Group A. They trail the group leaders, Egypt, by two points. Egypt, who have a game in hand against Sierra Leone, are set to play later today.

Currently, Egypt holds the top position in Group A with 13 points and a goal difference of +9, with Burkina Faso following closely with 11 points and a +6 goal difference. Sierra Leone is in third place with 8 points, followed by Ethiopia and Guinea-Bissau, both with 6 points, and Djibouti at the bottom with 1 point.

Looking ahead to Matchday 7 in early September, Djibouti will face Burkina Faso at home. Meanwhile, Egypt will host Ethiopia, and Sierra Leone will travel to Bissau to take on the Djurtus of Guinea-Bissau.
