Boulgou: Students from the Médiéga high school discover the heritage of Garango As part of the promotion of cultural heritage and the opening of the school to its environment, the students of the Médiéga high school, in the commune of Boussouma, carried out an educational and tourist outing to Garango.According to Burkina Information Agency, this activity, organized at a later date than the end of the school cultural month, allowed learners to discover major historical and cultural sites in the Nakambé region. Bassirou Zakané, a history and geography teacher, remarked that this outing aligns with the vision of Burkina Faso's educational and cultural authorities to promote learning outside the classroom. Originally scheduled between April 18 and May 18 as part of the cultural month, the activity was postponed due to school exams. The students visited the "Boulgourou word" hill, considered a sacred site, as well as the Dakupa Museum in Garango. There, they discovered historical objects and material evidence of the past, arousing wonder and curiosity among the learners. The teacher emphasized the need to revitalize this community museum, which is currently underutilized, to better showcase local heritage. The school delegation also visited the royal court of Garango, a significant site of historical importance for the Bissa people. The students toured the tombs of the kings, the royal granary, and spoke with the guardians of tradition. This visit provided a deeper understanding of the socio-cultural organization and ancestral values passed down through generations. For the teacher, these discoveries contribute not only to historical learning but also to the development of local tourism and the creation of community jobs. He believes that promoting these sites could, in time, lead to their inscription on UNESCO's World Heritage List. This educational outing reinforced the students' sense of national pride and the importance of preserving cultural heritage. It served as a reminder that schools, beyond the classr oom, are essential tools for shaping citizens who are aware of their history and committed to promoting their cultural identity.
