Ouagadougou: The prosecutor’s office at the High Court of Tenkodogo proceeded on Saturday to incinerate large quantities of drugs, contraband cigarettes, adulterated alcohol, and prohibited medicines, with an estimated value of nearly 94 million CFA francs. Through this operation, the justice system reaffirms its determination to fight against fraud, drug trafficking, and the marketing of dangerous products in the Nakamb© region.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the ceremony was placed under the authority of the Prosecutor of Faso at the High Court of Tenkodogo, Bouma Ido, who was assisted by his deputy, Falalou Namoano. The cremation took place on a secure site in the presence of Judicial Police Officers (OPJ), Defense and Security Forces (FDS), as well as media professionals. The destroyed goods had been seized between January and July 2026 during several operations conducted by the security services. Their destruction follows final confiscation orders issued by the Court, in accordance with applicable legal provisions.
Deputy Prosecutor Falalou Namoano stated that the incinerated products included 132 kilograms of Indian hemp, 140 cartons of contraband cigarettes, 10 cartons of adulterated alcohol, and nearly 300 cartons of prohibited pharmaceutical products, including tramadol. Namoano specified that the prohibited pharmaceutical products were seized by the Garango District Police Station, the contraband cigarettes by the Bagr© Territorial Gendarmerie Brigade, while the tramadol and other narcotics came from operations conducted by the Bittou District Police Station.
According to the deputy prosecutor, these results illustrate the strengthening of the fight against smuggling and trafficking of illicit products in this border area. He paid tribute to the Judicial Police Officers for their professionalism and commitment despite the difficulties they face, inviting them to continue their efforts. “We will not give up as long as they continue,” he said, issuing a clear warning to the fraud networks.
The magistrate explained that this fight pursues four major objectives: to protect the health of the population against the harmful effects of prohibited medicines and adulterated alcohol; to preserve state tax revenues undermined by smuggling; to guarantee fair competition for the benefit of companies that respect regulations; and to combat money laundering fueled by illicit trade networks.
Addressing the fate of those involved, Falalou Namoano indicated that the majority of perpetrators were arrested, brought before the prosecutor’s office, and then punished. He specified that, in accordance with the reforms of the Code of Criminal Procedure, several cases have been dealt with within the framework of the criminal composition, with the payment of significant fines to the Public Treasury, in addition to the confiscation of the destroyed goods.
The Prosecutor of Faso finally praised the commitment of all actors in the criminal justice system as well as the support of the media in raising public awareness of the dangers associated with prohibited products and fraud.
