The Ministry of Defense and Veterans Affairs celebrated the 63rd anniversary of the creation of the national armed forces on Wednesday, November 1, 2023 in Ouagadougou, under the theme “National Armed Forces, Internal Security Forces and Volunteers for the Defense of the Homeland; together for the continuation of the reconquest of the territory.”
According to the Minister in charge of Defense, Brigadier General, Kassoum Coulibaly, the message conveyed through this theme is part of the vision of the President of the Transition, Captain Ibrahim Traoré, who makes the reconquest of the national territory the main priority around which the Burkinabè must unite their forces and their intelligence.
In his opinion, for the past year, a new dynamic in the fight has been underway, under his leadership, with a progressive and profound reorganization of the Defense and security system, an exceptional strengthening of the workforce, the acquisition of resources strategic, operational materials and equipment, the creation of new units for an effective network of the territory.
“This unprecedented desire to make the defense and security system effective, supported by a strong patriotic mobilization, marks a decisive turning point in the fight against terrorism. Now the initiative belongs to the fighting forces which, by means of combined actions, track the enemy day and night, inflicting more and more losses on him in areas where he had freedom of actions and movements” assured Brigadier General Coulibaly while recalling that the message of the fighting forces is clear and remains the same: “lay down your arms for a perspective or perish!” »
However, General Coulibaly deplored that faced with the heroic resistance of the Burkinabè people and the setbacks inflicted on the enemy on the ground, the latter thing to create the conditions for an implosion of the fighting forces in order to sixteen from Burkina Faso.
To this end, the minister confided that several stratagems are used such as disinformation, manipulation, incitement to demobilization, the trap of huge gains, the exacerbation of corporatism and useless and harmful rivalries and perfidy.
This is why he invited the FDS, the VDP and the populations to exalt unity and vigilance to defeat the cynical traps set with the aim of breaking the trust between the FDS and the populations.
“Let us not give in to these insidious and hideous maneuvers. Let us always keep in mind that anything that can undermine our cohesion, our serenity, will weaken us to the benefit of the enemy,” implored the general.
As a result, he invited the heads of the various force-providing entities to become more involved in the process of preparation, decision-making, planning and conduct of operations at the level of the National Theater Operations Command, the central coordinating body. of all operations in times of war and crisis.
The Prime Minister, Me Apollinaire Joachimson Kyélem de Tambela, who chaired the ceremony, paid vibrant tribute to those who came before him and in particular to all the former heads of state who presided over the destiny of Burkina Faso.
“I am thinking especially of our current strategist Captain Ibrahim Traoré, who presides over the destiny of our country, who refounded the army, who gave it the means capable of resisting current dangers, of giving hope and a nationalist feeling to each military” confided Me Kyélem.
Note that the celebration of the 63rd anniversary at the Place de la Nation in Ouagadougou ended with the decoration of 38 FDS and civilians.
