Tuy: The Houndé health district initiates advocacy in favor of the fight against dengue fever

Houndé, The Houndé health district organized on Monday October 16, 2023 in Houndé, an advocacy meeting in favor of the fight against dengue fever. The ceremony was chaired by the secretary general of Tuy province, Bassidiki Ouattara representing the high commissioner.

The Houndé health district wants to reverse the trend given the outbreak of dengue cases in the Tuy province, Hauts-Bassins region.

To this end, he organized on Monday October 16, 2023, an advocacy meeting in favor of the fight against the disease.

This meeting, which brought together directors of provincial services, customary and religious leaders, youth and women leaders, etc., made it possible to discuss the disease and share good practices, with a view to avoiding it.

According to the head of clinical activities and quality of care of the Houndé health district, Dr Marie Jaurès Ramdé, dengue is a viral infection transmitted by a mosquito called “aeds egypti” which occurs in urban and semi-urban areas.

The Tuy province recorded 346 probable cases as of October 16, 2023, including one death, according to data from the health district.

Dr Ramdé argued that when we refer to the population density and promiscuity, it is easy to understand why the health district of Houndé suffers from dengue.

“We have a population that migrates a lot and that we cannot currently control,” he explained.

The head of clinical activities of the Houndé health district clarified that dengue patients can develop signs similar to the symptoms of malaria, namely fever, headache, arthralgia, body pain, etc.

According to him, the prevention and control of dengue fever relies on effective vector control measures.

Dr Marie Jaurès Ramdé urged the population to fight against mosquitoes which are the main vector of dengue fever by cleaning up our living environment by attacking larval breeding sites.

He also advised sick people to go to a health center as soon as possible and avoid self-medication.
