Ouagadougou: The Communal Union of Associations for the Promotion of Literacy and Development (UCAPAD) of Founzan convened for its annual general meeting, marking the official launch of its 2026 literacy and training campaign. The event took place in Founzan with the participation of various administrative, educational, and technical service authorities.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the assembly provided a platform for reviewing the 2025 campaign activities, including the presentation and adoption of the moral, financial, and technical reports. The past year saw several initiatives, such as training on hygiene and sanitation, high-yield maize production, sheep farming, and the establishment of school councils at the centers. The coordinator of UCAPAD/Founzan, Lonkou Gerard Yaro, reported a 76.76% success rate among 142 candidates trained in Dioula and Dagara languages who participated in the certification assessment. The alternative formula centers achieved a 100% success rate with 99 candidates.
The technical training courses in 2025 engaged 171 participants, focusing on areas such as soil fertilization, livestock farming, and vegetable production, with significant involvement from women. For 2026, UCAPAD/Founzan aims to expand by opening more centers. However, due to budgetary constraints, only five centers will open initially in locations like Saneba, Kouloho, Kovio, and Founzan, supported by the Fund for Literacy and Non-Formal Education (FONAENF).
The opening of these centers is set for January 19 to 26, 2026, with the certification assessment scheduled for April 28, 2026. Looking forward, UCAPAD/Founzan plans to revise its statutory texts and renovate its headquarters. Tionou Lamy, the head of the Basic Education District of Founzan, praised UCAPAD/Founzan's efforts in literacy promotion and assured ongoing support.
Wahabo Kabore, president of the special municipal delegation of Founzan, commended the centers' achievements and UCAPAD/Founzan's role in fostering socio-professional integration. He expressed hope for the establishment of centers across all villages in the municipality and encouraged community-led initiatives to facilitate this expansion while awaiting additional partner support.
