UCRB Educates 50 Students on Menstrual Care

Sourou: The Union of Customary and Religious People of Burkina for the Promotion of Health and Development (UCRB/SD) hosted an awareness-raising conference on March 23, 2025, focusing on the care of a young girl's body during menstruation for the benefit of 50 post-primary school girls.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the UCRB/SD, in partnership with Save the Children through its Palobd© project, conducted this session in Tougan. The initiative aimed to educate these students about body care during menstruation. Speakers Fatimata Boro and Adeline N. Alima Y©l©mou addressed the differences between childhood and adolescence, the signs of adolescence, the manifestation of menstruation, and the necessary precautions during this period.

Moumini Sawadogo, UCRB/SD facilitator and focal point in Tougan, emphasized that the campaign's goal is to enable these young girls to manage their bodies effectively during menstruation. Sawadogo stated, "This awareness will allow participants to better understand their bodies and know how to behave when the signs of menstruation begin to appear."

Participant Marie Anastasie Din expressed that the session was enriching, providing her with previously unknown knowledge. She committed to sharing this newly acquired information with her peers, saying, "I'm very satisfied. We learned a lot about ourselves that we didn't know. Now I know how to behave if I notice the signs of menstruation. I'm also going to raise awareness among my classmates who weren't able to attend this session."

Additionally, the participants received training in producing washable and reusable hygiene kits during the session.
