Ouagadougou: The Deputy Secretary General of the Ministry of Territorial Administration and Mobility, Ms. Kiswendsida Alice OUEDRAOGO, officially installed Wendkuni Serge Frederic ZOMBRE as the new Director General of Air Burkina on April 7, 2026. Appointed by the Council of Ministers on March 12, 2026, ZOMBRE takes over from Azakaria TRAORE.
According to Burkina Information Agency, during the ceremony, ZOMBRE expressed his gratitude to the country's leadership, particularly President Ibrahim TRAORE. He stated that his appointment is a call to service and responsibility, aiming to transform Air Burkina into a competitive airline. He emphasized the necessity for the airline to not just survive but thrive, asserting that Burkina Faso deserves more.
ZOMBRE outlined his vision to position Ouagadougou as a major air hub and emphasized the importance of achieving technical autonomy. He highlighted investing in youth as crucial for the airline's future. Addressing the workforce, he praised their resilience and stressed the importance of working collaboratively to embrace change.
Azakaria TRAORE, the outgoing Director General, summarized his tenure's achievements, including the acquisition of two Embraer 190 aircraft, which enhanced operational capacity and flight reliability. This was seen as a significant contribution to Air Burkina's prominence.
Ms. Kiswendsida Alice OUEDRAOGO acknowledged the outgoing team's efforts and urged ZOMBRE to tackle the challenges facing Air Burkina. She highlighted the importance of quality service and customer focus, pledging the authorities' support to ZOMBRE in his new role.
