Banwa: A violent altercation at the Solenzo bus station claimed the life of a young man on the night of Sunday, January 18 to Monday, January 19, 2026, AIB has learned.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the incident occurred during the unloading of luggage from a vehicle arriving from Ouagadougou. A trainee driver, tasked with handing the packages to two young men on the ground, reportedly reprimanded them sharply after a box containing, according to him, valuables, fell from the vehicle. His remarks, deemed offensive, are said to have angered the two young men.
Shortly after getting out of the vehicle, they allegedly approached the trainee driver and asked him to wait for them. According to the same sources, the trainee driver then went to get a hammer before going to bed.
During the night, the two young men reportedly returned to wake him from his rest to demand an explanation for the insults he had uttered earlier. A fight then broke out, during which the apprentice driver allegedly struck one of the young men a violent blow to the head with a hammer, causing him to collapse immediately.
The second youth reportedly tried to retaliate by throwing a stone, but was injured in the head and fled. The apprentice driver then allegedly returned to the first victim and struck him again with a hammer.
Seriously injured, the youth was taken to the hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries. The second youth, who was also injured, is currently receiving treatment at a health center.
Police have arrested the trainee driver, while the second person involved is expected to give his account of events. An investigation is underway to determine responsibility.
