Ouagadougou: A young man has been sentenced to 24 months in prison, with 12 months to be served, for engaging in homosexual acts. The High Court (TGI) of Kongoussi delivered its verdict on Tuesday in a case involving a 28-year-old man prosecuted for homosexual acts and related practices.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the court made its decision publicly, in adversarial proceedings and at first instance, declaring the defendant guilty of the charges against him. He was sentenced to 24 months imprisonment, with 12 months mandatory, and fined one million CFA francs, with 500,000 francs as mandatory imprisonment, under judicial constraint.

The convicted man has been given 10 days to appeal the court’s decision. The case originated in 2023, with evidence presented at the hearing on August 12, 2026, showing that the defendant admitted to the charges.

The prosecution had requested a sentence of 24 months imprisonment, with 18 months mandatory, and a fine of 2 million FCFA, with 1 million as mandatory imprisonment, all under judicial constraint.
