Ouagadougou: The youth of Barsalogho organized a sanitation and gutter cleaning day on Saturday at the Barsalogho Medical Center with surgical unit (CMA) to prevent flooding, combat stagnant water, and reduce the risk of malaria.

According to Burkina Information Agency, youth spokesperson Abdou-Hamidou Oudraogo stated that the initiative aims to prevent flooding and eliminate stagnant water, which is conducive to the proliferation of mosquitoes, the main vectors of malaria.

Armed with rakes, picks, shovels, wheelbarrows, and tricycles, young people, health workers, and local authorities cleared gutters, removed garbage, and filled in holes that were collecting rainwater, demonstrating a spirit of solidarity and civic responsibility.

The chief medical officer of the Barsalogho health district, Dr. Mohamed Sylla, praised this community effort, which helped to improve the healthcare environment. "We were uncomfortable welcoming patients and their companions to an unsanitary center," he said, assuring that awareness campaigns will continue in order to maintain the cleanliness of the health facility.

Present at the activity, the prefect, president of the special municipal delegation of Barsalogho, Sansa Mathias Pal, congratulated the participants for their civic engagement. He urged them to perpetuate this type of initiative in order to contribute to the sanitation of the municipality, in accordance with the vision of the highest authorities of Burkina Faso.
