Zabr© Road Tragedy: Eight Women Killed in Truck Overturning

Zabr©: Eight women lost their lives and nine other people were injured in the overturning of a mixed transport truck that occurred on the night of Thursday, May 21, 2026, on the Zabr©-Ziou road, AIB learned from an official source.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the truck, coming from the market of Guelwongo in the commune of Ziou, was en route to Dind©ogo in the commune of Gon-Boussougou when it overturned about five kilometers from Zabr©. The incident resulted in a tragic loss of life and multiple injuries, prompting immediate response from local authorities.

Alerted around 9 p.m., the district medical officer, Djibril Boro, the commander of the territorial gendarmerie brigade, Djibril Doulkom, and the municipal police commander, Simplice Sawadogo, quickly arrived at the scene of the tragedy. Rescue teams discovered eight lifeless bodies trapped under goods transported by the truck, which included cement, planks, and drinks.

Seven injured individuals were evacuated to the Zabr© health district for treatment, while two others were transferred to the Tenkodogo Regional Hospital Center for further medical care. Following standard procedures, health workers and gendarmerie members conducted checks before the families of the victims were allowed to remove the bodies for burial, in coordination with local customary authorities.

The exact circumstances leading to the accident are still under investigation. An inquiry has been launched, and the truck driver is currently in police custody. It is important to note that mixed transport is prohibited in Burkina Faso.
