Ouagadougou: The Special Municipal Delegation of Ziga has given its approval to the draft Local Land Charter of the Kingdom of Boussouma during its first extraordinary session. This marks a significant step in the consultation process of local authorities involved in this future land management framework.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the 115-article document was presented by the Secretary General of the Ziga Town Hall, Comrade Cl©ment Savadogo. After thorough discussions, the members of the Special Delegation unanimously approved the project. This validation forms part of the efforts to develop a guide for managing and preserving shared natural resources, including village forests, cattle trails, grazing areas, water reservoirs, sacred groves, and gold mining sites.

Comrade Savadogo stated that the charter, rooted in the customs and traditions of the Kingdom of Boussouma, serves as “a lever for the prevention and management of land conflicts for the promotion of harmonious coexistence between communities.” The document was developed with support from the National Land Observatory of Burkina Faso (ONF-BF) and aligns with existing legislative and regulatory frameworks.

Comrade Amadou Konvolobo, president of the Special Communal Delegation of Ziga, highlighted that this approval is Ziga’s contribution to the broader consultation process across the Kingdom of Boussouma’s territorial communities, which precedes the charter’s official adoption by customary bodies.

The Local Land Charter aims to be a collaborative framework for preventing and managing land conflicts, developed in consultation with customary authorities, local authorities, and decentralized technical services. Its objectives include securing land access and use rights, enhancing dialogue between customary and institutional actors, and sustainably strengthening social cohesion within communities.
