Burkina: the government reaffirms its commitment to supporting the use of statistical data for inclusive development

Ouagadougou: The Ministry of the Economy reaffirmed on Friday the commitment of the Burkinabè government to supporting the production and use of statistical data to promote a resilient and equitable future for the entire population.

‘Together we reaffirm our commitment to significantly support, on an institutional and organizational level, the production and use of data to promote a resilient and equitable future for the entire population in a context of insecurity,’ declared the minister in charge of Economy Aboubacar Nacanabo, represented by its secretary general, Rachid Soulama.

The Secretary General spoke on Friday in Ouagadougou on the commemoration of World Population Day.

According to Rachid Soulama, to have a public policy that takes into account all segments of the population, it is necessary to rely on complete and inclusive data.

This is why, he continued, the government is placing ‘particular emphasis on the development of statistical tools’, by strengthening the capacities of the structure in
charge of the country’s statistics.

According to the Secretary General, the use of tablets and satellite imagery for mapping and data collection demonstrates the government’s determination to work for inclusive development of the entire population.

For the resident representative of the United Nations Population Fund, Alain Akpadji, despite the difficult security context, Burkina Faso invests enormously in data collection. According to Mr. Akpadji, Burkina Faso is to be congratulated because it is one of the countries in the sub-region to have used new information and communication technologies to carry out its last demographic census.

In Burkina Faso, World Population Day is celebrated this year with a slight delay on the theme: ‘Harnessing the power of inclusive data for a resilient and equitable future for all’.
