Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya has urged political leaders to join hands to steer forward the development of the county.
He emphasised that peace and unity are valuable ingredients for development and warned against divisive politics, saying it only serves to spread hatred and cause chaos.
Speaking during interdenominational prayers led by Catholic Diocese of Kitale Bishop Henry Juma Odonya at Kitale Show Ground on Saturday, the Governor said the time for political machinations is over and extended an olive branch to his 2022 political competitors to join hands with him for the sake of development.
Natembeya directed county staff to ensure equitable delivery and distribution of resources in the cosmopolitan county and insisted that no one should be discriminated against by virtue of ethnicity, colour, or religion.
‘I am ordering county staff to ensure that every member of the public is treated fairly and to their satisfaction, for I am sure it will help to maintain peace,’ he said.
In a measure to
appreciate the cultural diversity of the region, Natembeya revealed that plans are underway to ensure a cultural centre is established where the cultures of all the communities in the region are showcased and preserved for posterity.
The governor said the government has plans in the next financial year to subsidise agriculture by increasing funding for the Mbegu Initiative, which he said has enhanced productivity.
‘From the feedback we are getting, the Mbegu Initiative, which the government introduced with the objective of enhancing food security, has greatly intensified agricultural activities in this region, and we are optimistic that the results will be positive. In the next financial year, we are going to increase funding for the initiative so that more farmers are reached,’ he said.
The Governor further ordered the Department of Social Services to ensure the rehabilitation of Kwanza Rehabilitation Centre to facilitate better services.
