Ouagadougou: The identification and registration of beneficiaries of vegetable seed support for the 2026-2027 dry season took place on Wednesday, August 19, 2026, in Boussou, Zondoma Province. The operation was conducted by the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC).
According to Burkina Information Agency, this support primarily targets internally displaced persons, returnees, and vulnerable residents of Boussou, for whom the dry season typically brings a halt to agricultural activity and a decrease in household income. The seeds to be distributed should enable these families to utilize the local market gardens and water points to produce some of their food during this period.
By the end of the day, 500 households in the commune of Boussou had been registered to benefit from this support. The exercise took place in the presence of the president of the special delegation of Boussou, Alassane Demsili, a volunteer from the Burkina Faso Red Cross (CRBF) from Gourcy, Tahirou Oudraogo, and two CRBF volunteers from the commune.
The communal identification committee, composed of land chiefs, representatives of displaced persons and returnees, a representative of women and local market gardeners, also took part in the operation.
The criteria used prioritized the most vulnerable households: families with children under five, pregnant women, people with reduced mobility, female heads of household, and households with children who had completed malnutrition treatment programs. The availability of arable land and access to water during the dry season was an additional requirement.
Alongside the registration, an awareness session was conducted for the beneficiaries. It focused on the proper use of available water resources during the dry season, particularly market garden wells, watercourses, and dams, with a view to ensuring sustainable access to irrigation for all producing households in the commune.
Each selected household will receive a seed kit containing cabbage, tomato, onion, and eggplant. Distribution is scheduled for September.
