Dori: The President of the National Commission of the Confederation of Sahel States (CN-CES), Mr. Bassolma Bazie, hosted a regional conference on Friday, October 24, 2025, in Dori, dedicated to the anchoring of the confederal project. This meeting mobilized a large audience from throughout the Liptako region, marked by a strong enthusiasm for the ideal of sovereignty and solidarity advocated by the Alliance of Sahel States (AES).

According to Burkina Information Agency, the Dori regional conference was organized as part of an information and awareness-raising tour aimed at strengthening the Sahel’s people’s ownership of the confederation project. The organizers explained the shared vision of the heads of state of Burkina Faso, Mali, and Niger through the creation of the Confederation of Sahel States (CES).

President Bassolma Bazie was joined by vice-presidents Mr. Adama Amadee Siguire, responsible for monitoring development issues, and Mr. Ernest Auguste Yelemou, responsible for defense and security issues. Together, they discussed with the people the foundations, ambitions, and prospects of the CES, a project considered an instrument of collective liberation and endogenous development.

Participants expressed their support for this initiative by the three sister countries of the Sahel, welcoming a historic step that paves the way for true political and economic independence. In a statement, Mr. Bazie emphasized that the creation of the CES marks a decisive step in the quest for sovereignty and dignity of the peoples of the Sahel.

He stated that the Heads of State of Burkina Faso, Mali, and Niger are engaged in a historic struggle for real sovereignty and genuine social development. The President of the CN-CES criticized the continuity of imperialist logic which maintains African peoples in dependency, despite changing terminology and centuries. He called for collective awareness and mobilization to defend the continent’s sovereignty.

Mr. Bazie also paid tribute to the leaders of the AES, who, according to him, face threats and attempts at destabilization for choosing the path of independence and dignity. He praised the resilience of the administrative authorities, defense and security forces (FDS), and volunteers for the defense of the homeland (VDP), as well as the populations of the Liptako region, stating that their courage is a source of inspiration for all ETUC member countries.

Vice-Presidents Ernest Auguste Yelemou and Adama Amadee Siguire supported his remarks, emphasizing that the Confederation remains a work in progress, requiring the contribution and active support of citizens. They insisted that the project’s success depends on the support and participation of everyone.

The Governor of the Sahel region, Mr. Abdoul Karim Zongo, commended the meeting and congratulated the organizers for this national initiative. He urged participants to promote the message of the Confederation so that every Burkinabe and every inhabitant of the Sahel fully embraces this confederal ideal.

Representatives of vital forces, as well as Malian and Nigerien communities residing in the region, expressed their unwavering support for the Confederation of Sahel States, promising to relay the message of unity and solidarity in their localities.

The Dori regional conference constituted an important step in the national campaign to anchor the Confederation of Sahel States. Driven by a discourse on sovereignty, dignity, and shared development, this meeting helped consolidate the commitment of the Sahelian populations to the confederal project. The messages of solidarity and unity heard in Dori reflect the growing desire of the peoples of the Sahel to build a future based on freedom, cooperation, and resilience.
