Gourma Education Leaders Convene to Discuss Ministry Reforms

Ouagadougou: The High Commissioner of Gourma Province, Silas Nacanabo, inaugurated a pivotal conference for school principals, supervisors, and student life staff from the Gourma Provincial Directorate of Secondary Education in Fada N'Gourma. The conference, held on Monday, November 3, 2025, saw participation from representatives of the provinces of Kompienga and Komondjari. The focus of the gathering was to deliberate on reforms within the ministry.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the High Commissioner lauded the academic achievements of the 2024-2025 school year, highlighting the province's success despite prevailing security challenges. Nacanabo acknowledged the remarkable performance in school exams and transition assessments, expressing his commendation for these accomplishments.

Mr. Nacanabo also recognized the daily challenges faced by education professionals and assured that there are ongoing efforts to enhance their working conditions. He noted that several educational establishments were successfully reopened for the 2025-2026 school year.

In addressing school safety issues, Nacanabo emphasized the limited capacity of educational authorities to unilaterally close or relocate schools. He stressed the necessity for collective decision-making involving Defense and Security Forces, technical services, administrative authorities, and parents.

The province's chief official called on censors and school life agents to assist school leaders in promoting awareness and maintaining focus among learners to prevent disruptions and ensure a peaceful academic year. He urged school heads to prioritize organization, responsibility, and good governance to foster student success.

Ahamadou Gassambe, the provincial director in charge of secondary education in Gourma, confirmed that all necessary arrangements were made for the meeting's success. The conference gathered 204 participants, including school principals and staff from Kompienga and Komondjari.

Over the course of four days, attendees will engage in presentations covering ongoing reforms, school governance mechanisms, the enhancement of school life, and the evaluation of educational activities.
