8th Tree Festival in Sandie Marks 29 Years of Ecological Commitment

Sandie: The village of Sandie, in the commune of Reo, vibrated from November 27 to 29 to the rhythm of the 8th edition of the tree festival, organized by the CPN Club 'Friends of Nature' to celebrate 29 years of ecological and community commitment.

According to Burkina Information Agency, this event reinforces 29 years of continuous action in environmental education, reforestation, and natural resource protection in the Sanguie province. For nearly three decades, the association founded by Eugene Bamouni has been working to safeguard the local ecosystem through assisted natural regeneration, protected areas, restoration of degraded land, and reforestation.

These efforts by the CPN club "Friends of Nature" have enabled the creation of a twelve-hectare forest, a heritage offered in 2002 by the landowners of the Sandie district. The representative of the village chief and elders, Bassambie Bado, welcomed the guests and called on every citizen to protect this forest, which is seen as vital to the community's life and future.

Among the guests was Father Mauro Battistella, community leader at the "Mission villaregia," who greeted the population and highlighted the mission's five-year collaboration with the association. His colleague, Sylvain Zongo, representative of the Mission in Ouagadougou, praised the discipline and determination of the members and recalled their support through various initiatives such as installation of gabions, training in market gardening and beekeeping, provision of beehives, and construction of a training room inaugurated during the festival.

The festival also featured youth recitals, theatre, musical performances, a guided tour of the forest, an exhibition, sale and tasting of NTFPs, and a market street, affirming the deep commitment of Sandie's people to a healthy environment and sustainable development.
