Bamako: Several artisans from Burkina Faso are participating in the 2025 edition of the International Handicrafts Fair of Mali (SIAMA), offering the Malian public a rich overview of Burkinabe craftsmanship. This participation marks a significant opportunity for many of them to promote their national crafts and strengthen ties within the Alliance of Sahel States (AES).

According to Burkina Information Agency, sculptor-founder Malick Guira from Ouagadougou stands out with his unique sculptures, including large-scale animal figures and a series devoted to the African orchestra. Guira views this event as a reflection of cultural proximity between Mali, Burkina Faso, and Niger, considering them as a unified entity within the AES. Despite not having made any sales yet, Guira remains optimistic about the promising contacts he has established.

In the textile sector, stylist-designer Yonly Tenimpagba from the Gourma region showcases models in Faso Danfani and traditional ready-to-wear. He expresses satisfaction with the Malian public's growing interest in traditional fabrics like Koko Donda and Bogolan.

The fair also features traditional medicine practitioners, such as Moussa Rabo, who presents remedies for diabetes and typhoid fevers. He notes a high appreciation from visitors and reports numerous sales during his first participation in Mali.

In the agri-food sector, Ms. Afousata Toure exhibits sesame-based biscuits, observing slow market progress but remaining hopeful. She encourages the public to explore the artisanal creations at the fair.

Lastly, craftsman Bourzanga Daouda, who creates traditional bags and hats from Sapone, notes some market progress and hopes for increased turnout. He believes SIAMA offers an ideal platform to promote African culture and inspire further innovation among artisans.
