Sindou: The Head of the Sindou Basic Education District (CCEB), Emmanuel Sourabie, led a professional development day focused on introducing a new pedagogical method known as "thematic reading." The event took place on Thursday, January 15, 2025, with the intention of enhancing students' ability to read and fostering a love for reading.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the thematic reading approach is designed to guide learners towards developing a passion for reading. The training aims to improve the skills of educators in teaching reading, helping students not only to learn how to read but also to expand their general knowledge and use reading as a lifelong tool.
This new approach has been carefully crafted by the CEB's pedagogical support team. It seeks to address the observed decline in students' reading levels by equipping teachers with the necessary skills to improve literacy in the classroom.
Emmanuel Sourabie expressed confidence in the initiative, emphasizing its potential to strengthen children's reading skills, which in turn could make learning other subjects more accessible. He called on educators and supervisors to commit to this initiative, highlighting the importance of ongoing support and monitoring.
The thematic reading initiative represents a strategic effort to enhance educational outcomes and is seen as a crucial step in addressing literacy challenges within the region.
