Kourittenga: Xavier Nikiema, First Vice-President of the Koupela Special Delegation, launched the sports and cultural activities of Koupela Basic Education District (CEB) 2 on Wednesday, February 4, 2026, under the theme: 'Sports and cultural activities in primary school, a foundation for social cohesion and resilience.' The East B school team won with 3 successful shots against 0 for the Centre B school.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the launch event featured a football match between the Centre B and Est B school teams from Koupela. The match, intended to mark the start of the district's sports and cultural activities, was played in two 25-minute periods. Despite the determination and numerous attempts of both teams, no goals were scored during regulation time, leading to a penalty shootout. The Est B school team emerged victorious with 3 successful penalties to Centre B school's 0, kickstarting their campaign with a win. Notably, East B School also held the trophy from the previous edition.
This year's competition involves thirty-two schools and aims to promote community spirit and solidarity within the school environment. Wahabou Bagre, Secretary General of the Primary School Sports and Culture Organization, praised the students' commitment, the teachers' support, and the contributions of partners and sponsors. He highlighted that the theme was chosen to instill values of social cohesion, resilience, and fraternity in students, extending beyond the classroom curriculum.
Several administrative and educational authorities attended the ceremony. Xavier Nikiema, the first vice-president of the special delegation, commended the patriotic commitment and urged the young players to cultivate the spirit of fair play throughout the competitions. Through this initiative, the Koupela CEB 2 reaffirms its belief that sport and culture are essential tools for the holistic development of students and the strengthening of social cohesion within the community.
