Abdel Kadher Sawadogo’s Thesis Defense Examines CSC’s Role in Media Conflict Management

Ouagadougou: Abdel Kadher Sawadogo successfully defended his master's thesis on Saturday, February 7, 2026, at the Private University of Management Sciences, Economics, Law and Technology Burkina Faso (UMET-Burkina). The thesis, titled "Analysis of the actions of the High Council of Communication (CSC) on audiovisual media in conflict management in Burkina Faso," focused on the CSC's interventions and their impact on media practices during conflicts.

According to Burkina Information Agency, Abdel Kadher Sawadogo emphasized that the CSC's actions are driven by an information governance framework with targeted interventions. He highlighted the crucial role of audiovisual media in shaping collective perceptions and managing tensions during crises. His research aimed to contribute to the ongoing dialogue on responsible media practices and inclusive information governance, assessing the CSC's real impact on conflict media coverage.

Sawadogo presented several recommendations to enhance the CSC's capacity in handling media coverage of conflicts. These included strengthening human resources, acquiring real-time monitoring software for audiovisual content, offering continuous staff training on digital regulation, journalistic ethics, and hate speech prevention. He also suggested the collaborative development of transparency standards in decision-making, integrating media into peacebuilding strategies, raising public awareness, and involving civil society actively.

The jury found Sawadogo's thesis acceptable, awarding it a score of 15/20, acknowledging his comprehensive analysis and practical recommendations for improving conflict management through media governance.
