Kenedougou: The High Commissioner of the Kenedougou Province, Sadou Sakira, presided over the official inauguration ceremony of the livestock market in Orodara on Saturday, February 14, 2026, to strengthen agropastoral development in the region. Costing over 150 million CFA francs, the project was financed by the World Bank through the Regional Project to Support Pastoralism in the Sahel (PRAPS 2/BF).
According to Burkina Information Agency, the representative of the PRAPS coordinator, Zafyanou Yaro, who is also responsible for component 3 of the project, stated that the construction of this market is part of the implementation of the agropastoral and fisheries offensive undertaken by the national authorities. He emphasized that this infrastructure will contribute to the sustainable modernization of the livestock sector, improve marketing channels, and strengthen food sovereignty and social cohesion.
Zafyanou Yaro, on behalf of the actors in the sector, expressed gratitude to the President of Faso, Captain Ibrahim Traore, for his commitment to the development of the rural world and the strengthening of the resilience of the populations. He invited the beneficiaries to ensure responsible and concerted management.
The President of the special delegation (PDS) of the municipality of Orodara, Emmanuel Konate, celebrated the completion of a structuring infrastructure that brings hope to the community. He highlighted that this livestock market will offer a secure, organized, and suitable framework for commercial transactions, thus helping to increase the incomes of farmers and traders.
According to Emmanuel Konate, beyond its commercial purpose, the infrastructure contributes to local economic transformation by stimulating related activities such as transport, catering, and veterinary services. "This market is a strategic tool to make Orodara a competitive trading hub at the regional level," said the PDS.
For the High Commissioner of the Kenedougou province, Sadou Sakira, the inauguration of this market marks an important step in the structuring of the livestock sub-sector in the Kenedougou province. He indicated that this modern infrastructure will improve livestock traceability, optimize local revenues, and secure transactions for the benefit of all stakeholders. "This market is not just a sales space; it is an instrument for economic and social development," said Mr. Sakira.
The High Commissioner added that by promoting better organization of actors and facilitating exchanges, the infrastructure will contribute to strengthening the economic attractiveness of the province and consolidating Kenedougou's position as a strategic area for the production and marketing of livestock. Sadou Sakira invited technical services, municipal authorities, and professional organizations to support stakeholders to ensure the sustainability and performance of this investment.
The ceremony concluded with the symbolic cutting of the ribbon and a tour of the site.
