Ouagadougou: A women's under-20 football competition was launched Tuesday in Ouagadougou, during a press conference, to promote the sport and prepare the next generation, AIB observed.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the organizers of the competition explained that their objective is to "create a real space for the promotion of women's football, while preparing the next generation." Tournament promoter Yasmine Ouedraogo expressed their desire to offer young talents a platform for expression, progression, and visibility to help them reach their full potential and aspire to the highest levels.
Under the theme "Resilient Women", the competition aims to pay tribute "to all those women who, through their courage, determination and commitment, inspire our society". Eight U20 teams will participate in this tournament, which will take place from March 1st to 8th in Ouagadougou. The teams involved include AS Police, ASO, AS Djelgodji, USO, AS Bado, Etincelles, ACCOSA-FE, and Gazelles.
Two groups (A and B) of four teams each were formed following a draw. Group A consists of AS Police, USO, AS Bado, and Gazelles, while Group B includes ASO, ACCOSA-FE, AS Djelgodji, and Etincelles. Matches are scheduled at two venues: the National Technical Center and the ENAM grounds. The winning team will receive an equipment voucher worth 300,000 FCFA.
The competition also aims to recognize the bravery of the Defense and Security Forces (FDS) for their daily dedication to peace and stability in Burkina Faso. To mark the occasion, a gala match will feature former female football players against the women of the FDS on the ENAM pitch.
According to the organizers, beyond the competition, "this tournament is a strong message, one of confidence in young women, of equal opportunities and of building a future where young girls can dream big and act with determination."
