Nazinon: The Network for the Promotion and Empowerment of Rural Women (REPAFER) organized a validation workshop for the training modules guide focused on agricultural risks, specifically targeted at rural women in Burkina Faso, from February 26 to 27, 2026, in Manga, with support from the Platform for Agricultural Risk Management (PARM).
According to Burkina Information Agency, agricultural risk management poses significant challenges for food security and rural development, particularly in contexts affected by climate change, insecurity, crop diseases, natural disasters, and market fluctuations. These issues are further intensified by logistical challenges, inadequate infrastructure, and limited access to financing.
In response to these challenges, PARM has developed tools to better prevent and manage agricultural risks for smallholder farmers. Within this framework, REPAFER, dedicated to promoting the rights and leadership of rural women, received PARM's support to create a syllabus addressing the unique needs of women producers.
The Manga workshop's main objective was to validate the modules guide in a participatory manner, establishing a reference document for training and capacity building of rural women's organizations.
The guide comprises five modules. The first module focuses on understanding the agricultural risk landscape. The second addresses household-level risks and the role of women in resilience. The third module covers risk assessment and stakeholder-preferred methods. The fourth examines agricultural risk consequences and management tools. The fifth module introduces specific management tools for rural women.
The syllabus targets active members of rural women's organizations, including those involved in agricultural operations and various value chain links. REPAFER officials chose this group due to their increased vulnerability to agricultural risks, citing limited decision-making power, restricted access to land, production equipment, credit, and rural development opportunities.
At the workshop's conclusion, participants approved the guide and recommended its nationwide dissemination. They also called for ongoing technical and financial support to enhance the climate and economic resilience of rural women in Burkina Faso.
