Ouagadougou: Prime Minister Rimtalba Jean Emmanuel Ouedraogo paid his taxes and duties on Monday in Ouagadougou, on the occasion of the launch of the 4th edition of the month of civic tax compliance, thus setting an example and calling on citizens to fulfill their tax duty.
According to Burkina Information Agency, by personally paying his tax obligations, the head of the Burkinabe government indicated that this gesture aims to invite every Burkinabe to understand that "more than ever, we can only rely on ourselves."
The Prime Minister stressed that compliance with tax obligations helps strengthen the country's resilience, both in terms of security and financial health.
"We are no longer in the era of 'do as I say, not as I do.' Today, the government sets the example," stated Rimtalba Jean Emmanuel Ouedraogo. He clarified that all measures taken by the Executive branch apply first and foremost to those in positions of responsibility, starting with members of the government.
The Prime Minister also noted that a recent measure extended the requirement for tax clearance certificates to all appointments within the administration, arguing that every official must be a model of tax compliance. He maintained that only then would the authorities be legitimate in urging citizens to pay their taxes.
For the head of government, respecting tax obligations is essential to enable the country to meet its challenges by its own means and build an exemplary Burkina Faso for future generations.
