Burkina Faso Prime Minister Urges Enhanced Revenue Collection During Tax Exemplarity Days

Ouagadougou: On the occasion of the launch of the Exemplary Tax Days, Prime Minister Rimtalba Jean Emmanuel Ouedraogo visited the various revenue collection offices of the Ministry of Economy and Finance (MEF) on Monday. He offered his encouragement to the staff for their efforts, while urging them to redouble their efforts in order to reach the cruising speed desired by the President of Burkina Faso.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the Prime Minister's tour included stops at the Directorate General of the Treasury and Public Accounting (DGTCP), the Directorate General of Taxes (DGI), and the Directorate General of Customs (DGD). The head of government commended the performance achieved in mobilizing resources for the benefit of the State. He nevertheless acknowledged that there was still room for improvement and urged the revenue-collecting agencies to make greater efforts.

The managing directors expressed their gratitude to the Prime Minister for this visit, considering it an additional source of motivation. According to the Director General of the Treasury, Jean Yves Belem, this visit constitutes not only a strong signal of the attention that the government pays to the mobilization of internal resources, but also an encouragement to the entire financial front. He highlighted major advances, including the creation of Treasury deposit banks and the recovery performance, with 501.48 billion FCFA mobilized in 2025. The momentum continues in 2026, with 42 billion FCFA already recovered during the first two months of the year.

His counterpart at Customs, Dr. Yves Kafando, reaffirmed his services' commitment to diligently and effectively implement the authorities' directives. For Rimtalba Jean Emmanuel Ouedraogo, the message he wishes to convey is twofold. Firstly, it is to commend the significant achievements of recent years, marked by a constant and substantial improvement in results. These advances, he believes, are the fruit of the staff's commitment and the bold reforms implemented at both the legislative and regulatory levels, as well as in the modernization of procedures, particularly through digitalization.

On the other hand, he called for commitment and responsibility. "More than ever, we must understand that we can only rely on ourselves and on our endogenous capacity to mobilize internal resources to face the existential challenges of the moment, both in terms of reconquering and securing the territory and in implementing the dynamics of rebuilding our country under the leadership of the President of Faso, Captain Ibrahim Traore," he declared. According to the Prime Minister, the year 2026 must mark an amplification of this dynamic, which requires more commitment, in a spirit of sacrifice and patriotism.
