Kongoussi: Thirty-four sports figures were honored on February 28, 2026, in Kongoussi at the first edition of the Bam Sport Awards, an initiative aimed at promoting sporting excellence in the Bam province. The event celebrated athletes from various disciplines, including football, volleyball, karate, and swimming, based on their performances during the year 2025.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the initiative was spearheaded by the company Jul-Energy. The winners were selected by a jury that adhered to criteria established with the support of the provincial sports directorate. The High Commissioner of Bam, Karim Ouedraogo, presided over the ceremony and commended the active sports scene in the province, attributing its vibrancy to the commitment of promoters and associations organizing regular competitions.
Julien Gansonre, the event's promoter, emphasized that the initiative not only aims to reward sporting achievements but also seeks to enhance the visibility of local entrepreneurial ventures. The ceremony's patron, Relwende Pascal Kane, director of RTB Television, expressed his satisfaction with the event, describing it as a unifying force for the province's sporting talents and a strong motivator for young athletes.
Among the honorees was Rachidatou Sore, recognized as the top female athlete in Bam. She expressed her gratitude to the organizers, her coach, and her parents, stating that the recognition was a significant honor. Sore, a high school senior in Kongoussi who competes in track and field events, recently won a bronze medal in a competition in Bobo-Dioulasso, finishing third in the 100-meter and 200-meter events.
