Women of Gnagna Mobilize for Peace and Social Cohesion on International Women’s Day

Bogande: Women in the Gnagna province celebrated International Women's Day on Sunday in Bogande through a series of activities aimed at promoting peace and living together in Burkina Faso. The commemoration, organized for the entire province, was held around the theme of the 2026 edition: "Building lasting peace in Burkina Faso: the contribution of women and girls to promoting social cohesion."

According to Burkina Information Agency, the event featured a vibrant public conference where the Secretary General of the Gnagna province, Mendien, also known as Moussa Soma, emphasized the essential role of women in consolidating peace and social cohesion. He highlighted that women and girls hold a strategic position in promoting tolerance, social mediation, and community harmony.

As a prelude to the official ceremony, a six-kilometer march through Bogande's main streets saw significant participation from both men and women, demonstrating their commitment to peace and unity. The provincial coordinator of women from Gnagna, Ms. Bikienga Lankoande Alice, lauded the efforts of administrative, traditional, and religious authorities, as well as the armed forces, in reclaiming the national territory.

Ms. Lankoande also expressed her appreciation to donors whose contributions enabled the provision of food aid to 372 beneficiaries, including combatants, vulnerable individuals, and the wives of Volunteers for the Defense of the Homeland (VDP) who perished in combat. Singer Marie Gayeri, co-sponsor of the event, showed her support for the province's combatants by donating 200,000 CFA francs.

The High Commissioner of the Gnagna province presided over the ceremony, commending the strong mobilization of women and congratulating the provincial women's coordination for successfully organizing the event. He extended gratitude to various partners and donors for their support of the population and forces engaged in defending the national territory.

International Women's Day is celebrated every March 8 worldwide, highlighting women's achievements and reinforcing their role in societal development.
