Soum Province Agricultural Expansion: Over 70 Hectares of Market Gardening and Wheat Cultivation to Boost Food Sovereignty

Ouagadougou: More than 70 hectares of market gardening and 3 hectares of wheat to strengthen the agropastoral offensive

The High Commissioner of the Soum province, Wend Nere Wilfried Tougma, recently visited the market gardening site beyond the Djibo dam, where over 70 hectares are under cultivation. This visit aimed to encourage and support producers who are playing a critical role in advancing food sovereignty in the region.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the visit underscored the vigorous market gardening activities and the dedication of local producers, who are key contributors to the agricultural resurgence in Soum province. The initiative also includes a 3-hectare expansion dedicated to wheat cultivation, which has produced satisfactory outcomes, showcasing the agricultural potential of the region and the proficiency of its producers.

The High Commissioner noted that the successes observed across these more than 70 hectares demonstrate the commitment of local stakeholders. From market gardening to cereal production, particularly wheat, these efforts are laying the groundwork for the province's food self-sufficiency.
