Burkina Faso Primary School Trains 268 Students in Dyeing to Promote Local Culture

Ouagadougou: The office of the Council of the Karpaala C public primary school trained 268 students in dyeing on Saturday, aiming to enable them to promote "buy local" and enhance the Burkinabe cultural identity adapted to the country's realities. "The dyeing training session for students will allow our children, in addition to the academic skills acquired, to learn a useful trade and develop their creativity in order to better prepare them for working life," said Abdramane Zampaligre, President of the Council of the Karpaala C Public Primary School in Ouagadougou.

According to Burkina Information Agency, 268 students will enhance their skills over two days on koko dunda dyeing, on the premises of the school. Mr. Zampaligre indicated that the Karpaala C school wants, through this introduction to dyeing, to contribute to the promotion of Burkinabe culture and encourage manual work, in accordance with the vision of the President of Faso, Captain Ibrahim Traore. "This is a chance for you, dear students, to be trained in dyeing and I encourage you to remain attentive, serious and motivated in order to make the most of it for your working life," he urged.

The director of the Karpaala C public primary school, Fatoumata Sandwidi/Konate, assured that the mission of the school, according to the vision of Captain Traore, is to make learners acquire not only academic skills, but also to prepare them for working life and socio-professional integration. "This dyeing training is a response to the presidential initiative which aims to make Burkinabe education a springboard for endogenous development," said Ms. Sandwidi. She also invited the students to remain humble and wise in order to properly learn the koko dunda dyeing technique, while reaffirming the teachers' determination to carry out this mission with selflessness, which will help to train "patriotic", "upright" and "hardworking" citizens.

The director also mentioned some difficulties that hinder the smooth running of the Karpaala C school. These include the refurbishment of the school's first building, the lack of water for certain activities such as gardening, insufficient school furniture, the lack of lighting, the inaccessibility of the courtyard during the rainy season, as well as the need for desks and benches and cabinets.

The representative of the head of the basic education district (CCEB) of Ouaga 11, Babou Bationo, congratulated the Karpaala C school council for this dyeing training initiative, in line with the aspirations of the Popular Progressive Revolution (RPP), which he believes should be encouraged for the happiness of Burkinabe citizens. Mr. Bationo also thanked all the partners who supported this initiative led by the highest authorities in the country. "Through this training, these learners will acquire endogenous skills that will allow them to be proud of themselves and their Burkinab¨ identity," he said.

The representative of the sponsor, Sayouba Sanfo, welcomed this initiative by the Karpaala C public primary school, which aims to train the future men of tomorrow into "dignified" and "patriotic" Burkinab¨. He called on people of goodwill and partners to support this initiative in order to ensure its success, to the great delight of the population.
