Ouagadougou: The government of Burkina Faso and the Institute for the Development of the African Diaspora (ADDI) have signed a memorandum of understanding to support several crucial development projects across the nation. This agreement, facilitated by the National Bureau of Major Projects of Burkina Faso (BNGP-BF), aims to enhance sectors including microfinance, vocational training, health, ICT, and agriculture.
According to Burkina Information Agency, Professor Hamidou Sawadogo, the executive director of BNGP-BF, outlined that the memorandum is centered around key initiatives to bolster Burkina Faso's development efforts. A significant aspect of this partnership is the creation of a microfinance institution to benefit the Burkinabe population, with additional support from the African diaspora in technical and vocational training.
Professor Sawadogo further emphasized the health sector initiatives, which include building and strengthening health infrastructure and involving diaspora doctors and specialists to share their expertise voluntarily, promoting skills transfer in the country. The agreement also encompasses technology transfer in ICT, focusing on training and advisory support.
Dr. Arikana Chihombori, president of ADDI, expressed the African diaspora's commitment to contributing positively to Burkina Faso's development, highlighting their intention to aid rather than exploit the nation's resources. She supported the cooperative momentum among the Alliance of Sahel States (AES), foreseeing this collaboration as a pathway to a more united and prosperous Africa.
Burkina Faso's Minister of Foreign Affairs, Karamoko Jean Marie Traor©, stated that the signing marks a significant step in strengthening ties between Burkina Faso and ADDI. He noted the agreement's potential to aid in restoring Africa's dignity and true freedom, appreciating ADDI's dedication to supporting all African countries in their dignified and sovereign development endeavors.
The memorandum aims to establish a cooperative framework for executing joint initiatives, ultimately fostering economic and social progress in Burkina Faso.
