Infant Abduction at Fada N’Gourma Hospital Sparks Security Concerns

Gourma: A two-month-old infant was abducted from the university hospital; healthcare staff call for increased security.

A male infant, approximately two months old, was abducted during the night of Saturday, May 30 to Sunday, May 31, 2026, from the University Hospital Center (CHU) of Fada N'Gourma, AIB learned from concordant sources.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the child's mother had given birth vaginally approximately two months prior before returning home with her baby. Having experienced further discomfort, she went to the University Hospital of Fada N'Gourma to receive medical treatment. The tragedy occurred during her hospitalization. Between 2 and 3 a.m., while she was sleeping, the woman reportedly felt the presence of an individual beside her. A few moments later, upon waking, she discovered with horror that her infant had disappeared.

Her cries of distress immediately alerted the other patients, their companions, and the staff present. A spontaneous mobilization has begun to find the alleged perpetrator of the abduction as well as the baby. Despite searches undertaken within the hospital grounds and its immediate surroundings, neither the child nor the alleged kidnapper had been found at the time of writing.

This disappearance has caused considerable distress among the healthcare staff. Several healthcare workers interviewed expressed their concern about the situation, which they consider worrying for the safety of patients, their companions, and hospital staff. "We are all shocked by this abduction. If an individual can enter the services and leave with an infant without being bothered, this poses a real security problem," a health worker confided under the condition of anonymity.

The staff are therefore calling for increased security measures at the Fada N'Gourma University Hospital. "We urge the security guards at the Fada N'Gourma University Hospital to increase their vigilance to ensure everyone's safety," the same staff member pleaded. The exact circumstances of this disappearance remain unclear. An investigation should shed light on this case, which continues to cause concern among the population of Fada N'Gourma.
