Sabou: The Centre A primary school in Sabou hosted an awareness-raising meeting on Tuesday, June 16, focusing on children’s participation in their academic and social learning processes as part of the celebration of the Day of the African Child. This initiative, led by the Association of Young People for Family Welfare (AJBF), was supported by the Kinderpostzegels Foundation and partnered with the Association Tout pour Tous-Yennenga (Attous-Yennenga). It brought together various stakeholders, including administrative, educational, and traditional authorities, civil society organizations, and students, to promote children’s rights and enhance the education system.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the president of the Sabou Special Delegation (PDS), Abdul Aziz Koara, endorsed the initiative, emphasizing its role in promoting children’s rights and improving education quality. He highlighted the importance of centering children in decisions concerning their future and reaffirmed the municipality’s commitment to supporting initiatives that foster their development.
Abdramane Nignan, the Head of the Sabou Basic Education District (CCEB), underscored the significance of active student participation in their learning. He noted that children who are listened to and involved tend to develop greater self-confidence and improve their academic performance. Nignan urged educational stakeholders and parents to create an environment that encourages children’s self-expression.
Abdoulaye Kindo, Chairman of the Board of Directors of AJBF, pointed out that the activity aims to increase awareness among all stakeholders about the importance of children’s participation in their educational and social development. The initiative seeks to promote children’s rights, encourage their expression, and enhance community engagement in support of their well-being.
Students also voiced their concerns and aspirations during the meeting. They reiterated their rights to education, protection, and participation and advocated for a school environment free from violence and more responsive to their voices.
Through this initiative, the organizers aim to elevate the consideration of children’s voices in decisions that affect them and promote an inclusive and participatory school environment.
