Kaya: The Kouls© region commemorated, belatedly, from July 2 to 4, 2026 in Kaya, the International Nurses Day under the theme: 'Our nurses, our future. The power of nurses to act saves lives'.
According to Burkina Information Agency, this celebration was marked by several civic activities, including a blood donation operation, a public sanitation session, a tree planting, as well as a conference on the theme of the year, led by the president of the National Order of Nurses of Burkina Faso (ONII-BF), Bonvouila Sawadogo.
The Secretary General of the Sandbondtenga province, Pasnewend© Ou©draogo, representing the Governor of the Kouls© region, congratulated these health professionals and expressed the gratitude of the authorities for the work they are doing for the benefit of the people of the region. He commended their resilience, which, despite the challenging security situation, allows them to continue providing care in the most remote areas. The provincial authorities encouraged them to persevere in this ongoing effort to improve the health of the population.
The chief medical officer of the Kaya health district, Dr. Lamine Ou©draogo, praised the courage and sense of sacrifice of the nurses, whom he described as "the first and often last line of defense between life and suffering". He urged them to show more perseverance and professionalism despite the difficult security context, reminding them that Burkina Faso needs its nurses, "proud and standing tall".
According to the president of the Kouls© regional council of the ONII-BF, this first edition, held in Kaya, lived up to all its promises. It allowed nurses to exchange ideas on the year's theme, review their activities, and outline the future prospects of their profession. He called on his colleagues in the region to mobilize more around their professional order in order to promote their noble mission.
International Nurses Day has been celebrated every year on May 12 since 1965. The celebration was placed under the patronage of the governor of the Kouls© region, Colonel-Major Blaise Ou©draogo, and under the sponsorship of the regional director of health, Dr. Palmanga Ouoba.
