Ouagadougou: The national police handover to the national gendarmerie in Ipelc marked a significant transition on Monday, July 13, 2026, as Police Captain Moussa Sawadogo officially transferred authority to Chief Warrant Officer Madi Oudraogo, commander of the Ipelc territorial brigade.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the ceremony symbolized the national police's disengagement after 40 years of dedicated service in the commune of Ipelc, situated in the Baz¨ga province of the Nazinon region. The event emphasized the strategic reorganization of the national internal security system, as explained by Saidou Ouoba, the provincial director of the national police (DPPN) of Baz¨ga.

Comrade Ouoba highlighted that the reform aims to adapt the national internal security framework, optimize operational capacities, and enhance collaboration between the national police and gendarmerie, all to better serve the population. The ceremony involved the signing of documents and the ceremonial handover of keys to the premises, underscoring the transition's significance.

Speeches during the event celebrated the national police's four decades of service to Ipelc, acknowledging the efforts of the district police station's staff and welcoming the new gendarmerie leadership. Local residents were encouraged to continue cooperating with the national gendarmerie to ensure seamless security operations.

The event was presided over by the President of the Special Delegation of the commune, Milienne Kiemtor/Bonkoungou, with oversight from the DPPN of Baz¨ga. The gathering included representatives from the Defense and Security Forces, Volunteers for the Defense of the Homeland, civil society, associations, NGOs, and the Ipelc community.
