Ouagadougou: Faced with the resurgence of fires at the Kindi market, a delegation led by the President of the Special Delegation (PDS), Yves Ahmed Sanou, carried out an awareness mission on Thursday among traders exposed to the risks of fire.

According to Burkina Information Agency, fire safety has become a priority for the authorities of the Kindi commune. To prevent further disasters, a team composed of the PDS, the municipal treasurer, the rural land facilitator, the Village Development Committee (CVD), and the Defense and Security Forces (FDS) toured the market.

The awareness campaign primarily targeted women selling doughnuts and cakes, as well as butchers, whose activities require the daily use of fire inside the commercial site. The delegation communicated to these vendors that such activities are no longer permitted within the market to protect the infrastructure and goods.

The affected businesses have been informed of new designated sites established outside the market area following a prior census. The occupants have been given one week to vacate the unauthorized spaces and return to their officially allocated locations. The authorities warned that anyone violating the rules would face severe penalties after the deadline.

The shopkeepers, aware of the issues at stake regarding their safety and the preservation of their businesses, welcomed the initiative and pledged to comply with the municipal authorities' directive.
