Ouagadougou: The organizing committee of the 33rd edition of the Super Cup of the Association of Sports Journalists of Burkina (AJSB) officially launched the countdown to this sporting event on Saturday in Ouagadougou, during a press conference. "Over the years, the AJSB Super Cup has become an essential event on the national sports calendar, and it is both a celebration of football and a special moment for the large sports family, the press and the people to come together," said Luc Pagbelem, president of the organizing committee (PCO) and vice-president of the AJSB office.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the final of this 33rd edition will pit Rahimo FC, the reigning Fasofoot Ligue 1 champion, against Vitesse FC, winner of the Coupe du Faso, on Saturday, August 22, 2026, at the Wobi stadium in Bobo-Dioulasso. Leading up to this event, several activities are planned from Thursday, August 20th to Saturday, August 22nd in the city of Sya. For this edition, the organizers intend to integrate the Super Cup into a broader context that extends beyond the football competition itself.
'This year, the event will take place in Bobo-Dioulasso, from Thursday 20 to Saturday 22 August 2026, with a program worthy of the occasion. For the third consecutive year, the Super Cup Village will open its doors during these three days,' announced Luc Pagbelem. This space aims to be a true hub for meetings, entertainment, exhibitions, sales, and conviviality. It will feature an artistic stage, DJ sets, games, and booths dedicated to the event's various partners.
The AJSB will also set up a stand dedicated to its history. Through archives, photographs, and audiovisual content, visitors will be able to revisit some of the major milestones in the evolution of the association and the Super Cup. This 33rd edition also aims to emphasize solidarity and strengthening ties between the various segments of society. Thus, on August 20th, a popular cross-country race, followed by an aerobics session, will bring together the Defense and Security Forces (FDS), journalists, athletes, and the general public. This initiative is specifically designed to contribute to reinforcing the bond between the armed forces and the nation in the context of the reconquest of national territory.
The social aspect will be further strengthened on August 22 with the organization of a blood donation operation at the Super Cup Village site. "Through these various initiatives, the AJSB hopes to make this Super Cup an event that goes beyond just football, bringing together the media, the players in the sports movement, partners, and the general public around the sport," the PCO emphasized.
The 33rd edition of the AJSB Super Cup is under the moral patronage of Their Majesties Mogho Naaba Baongo and the Chief of the Bobo Mandar¨. It benefits from the sponsorship of the Minister of State, Minister of Agriculture, Water, Animal and Fisheries Resources, Commander Isma«l Sombi, and is held under the chairmanship of the Minister of Sports, Youth and Employment, Annick Pikbougoum.
The event is co-chaired by Oumarou Sawadogo, president of the Burkinabe Football Federation, while Bachirou Tera, president of the Guiriko Regional Consular Delegation, is the patron. On the sporting side, the event also benefits from the sponsorship of Boureima Maga, former Burkinabe international, and Ousmane Zoungrana, top scorer in a single season of Fasofoot, with 26 goals scored in 1984 under the colors of ASFB.
