Ouagadougou: A delegation from the Oubri region recently participated in a training session in Manga, held from August 3 to 4, 2026, focused on the collection of archives and artifacts from the Democratic and Popular Revolution (RDP) of 1983. This initiative aims to support the upcoming Isidore No«l Thomas Sankara Memorial.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the training was organized by the Isidore No«l Thomas Sankara Memorial Infrastructure Construction Project (PCIM-INTS) and brought together representatives from various regions of Burkina Faso. The goal was to enhance their skills in identifying, collecting, and preserving significant archives and artifacts relevant to this important period in the nation's history.
The Oubri region's delegation included the regional director in charge of Culture, the technical advisor to the governor on Cultural matters, a journalist, and the provincial director in charge of Culture for Bassitenga. At the conclusion of the training, Tieridja Haoua Traor/Sanou, the regional director in charge of Culture for Oubri, emphasized the region's dedication to this national effort.
"Our mission upon returning is to collect the archives and artifacts of the RDP and contribute them to the realization of the Isidore No«l Thomas Sankara Museum," Traor/Sanou stated. She also mentioned that a regional focal point for PCIM-INTS will be established soon to coordinate these collection activities within Oubri.
A comprehensive communication campaign is planned to encourage public support and to motivate individuals with historical documents and items to contribute to the project. The coordinator of PCIM-INTS, Etienne Lompo, highlighted the operation's objective to preserve national memory and to augment the documentary resources of the future memorial.
"This collection aims to document this period and supply the various infrastructures that will be established at the Thomas Sankara Memorial, including the physical library, the digital library, and the museum," Lompo explained.
Participants in the session received training on the importance of archives in maintaining collective memory and techniques for collecting, identifying, and preserving the archives and artifacts of the Democratic and People's Revolution.
